College President James Wright, Honoree Susan Dentzer '77, Presenter Chuck Sherman '66, Club President Jonathan Sullivan '90
The Dartmouth Club of Washington, DC annually bestows the Daniel Webster Distinguished Service Award on members of the Dartmouth family who honor Dartmouth through distinguished public service. In 2004, the Webster Award was given to Susan Dentzer '77, current Board Chair of the Dartmouth College Board of Trustees and health correspondent and head of the Health Policy Unit of the PBS program The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, for her journalistic coverage of health-care and other economic and social policy issues. The ceremony was held at The Freedom Forum in Arlington, VA with spectacular views overlooking the Potomac and the monuments and was attended by over 70 guests including local alumni, former honorees and College officials. Our coverage of this event includes:
This event would not have been possible without the help of numerous individuals. First and foremost, our host Peter Pritchard, Class of 66 and President of The Freedom Forum, himself a Webster Award recipient in 1999. He has graciously hosted this event and numerous others for us in this wonderful setting and the Club is grateful to him for his continued generosity. The members of our nominating committee: Gregg Dougherty '78, Mike Carter '77 and Bill Breer '57. Club Presidents Emeriti: Jack Bennett '66 was instrumental in planning the dinner, Da'aga Hill Bowman '79 helped with promotion and Wayne Bardsley '70 answered many phone calls from me. Club Vice President Jane Malhotra '90 produced the program. Carrie Hoverman '01 and Jennifer Feltner '01 staffed the registration table. Club Treasurer David Millane '67 collected all the registrations and donations, which is a lot more work than most realize. Steve Donovan '85A and Bobbi Mathieu in the Alumni Office were indispensable in assisting us with the invitations and the name tags. And last but certainly not least, Chuck Sherman '66, who played a leadership role from the beginning as part of our nominating committee through to the end as presenter of the award. This is the six year in which Chuck has played this role and the Club is very grateful for his leadership. Thank you all!
